At Home Cervical Screening Kit?

Has anyone tried an At Home Cervical Screening kit and, if so, please could you recommend where you got it from?

The NHS doesn't currently offer this in my area (at least, not as far as I know) and I am verrrrrry overdue a screening. It's been over 10 years since my last one, which I know is awful. Every time I attempt to go to the surgery for a screening, I have a panic attack due to CSA trauma. I literally cannot go through with the appointment. The GP prescribed me a sedative, but it didn't help and I still couldn't go through with the test.

I know how important this screening is, and I feel very anxious about having left it for so long, particularly because I am now a mother; I'm very prone to bad anxiety. I really, really want to be able to get myself checked, but I feel that an at-home kit is the only way for me to be able to manage it.

There seem to be a lot of companies that offer this privately, so wondered if anyone on here could recommend one you might have used, and offer your experience? Thank you so much in advance.

I get mine from Superdrug, very easy to use and quick results.

Thank you @TheSpottedZebra - that's kind of you. Unfortunately the clinic isn't near to me, but I truly appreciate your suggestion x

Thank you - is there a particular brand and do you buy it from the shelf or have to ask the pharmacist?

@EnergyIsEverything I just buy mine online and post it back but I assume you can buy them in store as well.

ETA it’s their own brand.

Thank you, I'll have a look online this evening. Appreciate it! x

NHS self sampling for women overdue for screening is being rolled out across England. I suggest giving your practice a call to check whether your area is live yet. Depending on when you were last invited, and how they’re working through those who haven’t responded, I’m not sure how long it will take for you to get a kit.

Yes, I recommend superdrug online doctor too. Just be aware it's only an HPV test so if HPV is found they will still recommend a smear so the sample can be checked for unusual cells. But it's a great starter and chances are all you'll need.
