Is this burn infected?

Burnt myself on the iron yesterday morning. It blistered a little but otherwise doesn't really hurt. I noticed this afternoon that it is starting to look swollen (it's hard to see on the pictures, but it's quite firm and noticibly swollen around/under the burn compared to my other arm).

The GP receptionist said they could get me an appointment for two weeks time. They also said I could go to a&e but hell would have to freeze over first.

Is it worth being worried over, or should I just leave it?

No photo yet, have you tried 111 or able to upload a photo to your GP on econsult

Notgonnatalkabouttheweather · 02/10/2026 15:32

That would be very quick for an infection of only happened yesterday

Burns get worse before they get better, so will often look worse a day or so after the incident. Does the burn go completely around your arm, or just on one side?
I'd go to a pharmacy and let the pharmacist have a look. They can provide a colloid dressing also assesses IF you do need the GP or anyone else to look at it. I can't see a pic.

Sorry, I didn't realise the photo hadn't worked! I'll take another one. It seems to have dried up a bit now.

It is just a line across (brushed against the iron accidentally).

DD fell over on gravel recently and her knee looked a bit green. I bought iodine dressings off Amazon and they worked a treat, I’m keeping them in the medicine cupboard now

No it doesnt look infected its still red as fairly new. I have many scars like this mainly from burns from the oven. Just keep it clean and dry

Sunbringer · 02/10/2026 17:43

No. Keep it clean. Medihoney and then a bandage is what the nurse put on my small but third degree burn.

OffWith · 02/10/2026 17:43

Brilliant! I will do that, thank you.

It doesn't look infected, no.

MassiveOvaryaction · 02/10/2026 17:46

Doesn't look infected to me. Pharmacist recommended Jelonet dressing when I did similar.

NoisyMonster678 · 02/10/2026 18:14

It is inflamed and looks painful.

Put some vaseline on it.

If you find it starts to go yellow, then that is an infection but if you prefer just call nhs 111

MamaNell · 02/10/2026 18:17

No. I’m a chef and have burnt my arms and hands many many times. Put some savlon/ antibacterial lotion on it twice a day. Cover it loosely if you are doing anything grubby like more cooking/ gardening etc, but otherwise leave it open to the air.

no moisturiser/ aloe Vera/ soap

Doesn't look infected but has the area got sensation? If not, it could be a full thickness burn. Which should be seen by a medical professional
