Recent PVD diagnosis and excercise

Hi there, I received had a PVD diagnosis on Tuesday, following a weekend of flashes in my left eye and a squiggly floater. Very thorough eye examination at hospital showed no retinal tear . I’m left atm with floaters which I’m told will diminish in time as brain adjusts. The doctor told me on Tuesday to carry on as normal but I didn’t specifically ask about exercise. I weight train 3x week and also do a hyrox class and run. When I’ve asked dr google it says some places advise against vigorous exercise in first 6 weeks after diagnosis. The leaflet they gave me didn’t cover exercise. Curious to know what advice others might have had.

Same issue and was told to carry on as normal.

I didn’t feel that comfortable doing that as I was getting a lot of flashing. So I dialled everything back for 4 weeks and when the flashing settled down I got back to normal. But that was my personal preference.

I googled too and I think it was USA that advised no vigorous exercise if I remember correctly.

Thanks for the reply @Ivegothewashingout I’ve done the same. Decided it wasn’t worth the risk, gentle yoga class and lots of walking this weekend . Can I ask did everything settle down for you ok and have you had any problems since. I’d never heard of this condition before and it’s been a bit of a shock.

It probably took around 2 to 3 weeks for the flashing to settle down a fair bit. But somewhere between that and six weeks it gradually stopped completely.

I’ve got some floaters now, which I noticed a lot initially, but now, 95% of the time I don’t notice them, but every now and again I really do!
Nothing since thankfully. Although the PVD was only in one eye so the other eye will go through PVD at some point I assume.

You mention gentle yoga but do be careful with inversions. I am convinced that a headstand was what tipped mine into an actual tear that required emergency surgery.

@InBristol sorry to hear that, I’d read that as a risk too over weekend. I’ll make sure head stays up right and as still as possible for time being. Glad to hear all has been ok since with you @Ivegothewashingout
