Hi has anyone ever had a bitter taste in mouth?
I have had this for 3 weeks but also had Sinusitis so thought it was related to that and antibiotics finished but still there.
I have had Gastritis in the past and also have IBS .
Any advice while I wait for GP appt would be appreciated TIA

I’ve had something similar along with sinus pain, no congestion. It’s lasted for around 6 weeks but had lessened considerably in the last two weeks. My mouth is more a burning feeling than a bitter one though.

Dental checks up to date?

AuntieMaidens · 27/09/2026 16:51

Yes all well at dental check up 3weeks ago

With sinusitis you can sometimes get nasal drip at the back of the throat and this can result in a neatly taste in the mouth. I’ve had it several times with sinusitis and it does take a couple of weeks after finishing the antibiotics to clear up properly and the drip to stop.

I’ve had strange mouth tastes and put it down to menopause.

Randomly, have you eaten pine nuts recently?

AuntieMaidens · 27/09/2026 17:14

Thanks for replies. I am way past menopause.
I still have post nasal drip clear but thick(sorry tmi)
It has eased a bit especially if I eat or drink but it something I have never experienced before and get sinus infections 2/3 times a year.

I had the pine nut thing. Nasty, and it went on for a few weeks

Sorry it posted twice after the edit - probably because I'm dog-sitting on a windy hill and it's impacting the internet strength.

Google LPR - I thought I had a structural issue with my sinuses (again - I had an operation about 25 years ago) finally got the all clear a couple of weeks ago, but the downside is it that it is suspected LPR (ironically as a result of HRT - don't ask). The acid damage was so significant and had inflamed the tissues in my head so much that it was the equivalent of waking up every day with acute sinusitis. Do you have a husky voice too? Globus (lump in the throat)? Nasal drip feeling down the back of the throat?

No pine nuts but having walnuts with my breakfast in order to take Vitamin D

Wow this is interesting . I don’t have hoarse throat but constantly clearing my throat due to post nasal drip and have had Globus feeling occasionally
I will research LPR

@AuntieMaidens I don't think walnuts contain vitamin D

I had never heard of it until I had my consultant ENT appointment a couple of weeks about - GERD yes, but LPR no. And very different things in terms of symptoms, I've never had heartburn in my life for example. I'm on two lots of medication now and lifestyle changes which will hopefully only last as long as it takes to get this thing under control - could be months, but better than daily sinusitis symptoms for well over a year. Good luck - I'm too new to it to offer very much more advice and at the point where we don't have a longer term plan as it might also go down the surgery route which is not common but could happen.

Correct, it's Vitamin E and a fair few B vitamins.

Allseeingallknowing · 27/09/2026 17:48

Gastric reflux

User3456 · 27/09/2026 17:53

I always think it's worth doing a covid test for any changes in sense of taste and smell. Probably too late now if it's gone on a few weeks though - although covid can cause long term issues with this, so it could be that. There's articles on how to retrain your taste buds after covid if you want to have a Google.
And for people who it could be possible for, a pregnancy test is worth doing too (I see you said you're post menopausal so not applicable in this case).

Sorry should have said I eat walnuts with porridge (healthy fats) in order to take vitamin D

Porridge oats and walnuts - neither have vitamin D, lovely. Unless you’re using fortified oats and not plain?
