How do you choose where to have implants done in England? I’m with a Perfect Smile clinic, who seem to have a decent reputation overall. Do I just go with their implantologist?

I can't see a reason not to go with their implant specialist unless you want to shop around for quotes. My implants are amazing. I looked for a local dentist who specialised in them. They are worth every penny.

I used a local private dental practice that had excellent reviews. The staff are amazing and my treatment has been spot on. Absolutely thrilled with my implants. Cost a fortune but worth every penny. At my practice there is a treatment coordinator and the dentist and dental nurse specialise in implants. I think it comes down to gut instinct. Ask around and perhaps visit different surgeries. Whatever you do- don’t go abroad it’s not worth it. From extraction to final implants takes months so beware anyone who can do it in a day.

I went to a specialist implant clinic that someone at work recommended.

Your own practice is a sensible place to start. The dental regulator has no specialist list for implants. That means any registered dentist can do them, so ask how many they place a year. Get the full plan in writing. At ImplantClarity we check real patient prices against what clinics advertise, so you can see how theirs compares. On average, one back tooth and crown is around £2,000 to £3,200.

Brighton implant clinic. £1000 per tooth. Ive been going there for 20 years and they are excellent. They do a lot of charity work too. Bruno Da Silva is the best one. I travel there from Somerset. Cheap doesnt mean shoddy they are fantastic. Im going back next month for another one.

I went to someone highly rated, he botched it but still spoke at a dental conference on it, still makes me livid just thinking about it

‘Gut instinct.’ My gut instinct is to ignore it all. 😭🫣🫢

I ignored it when a rootfilled 2nd upper premolar lost its crown 25y ago. Fine, it’s a little gap, no big deal. It doesn’t bother me. I ignored it when the first upper premolar on the other side broke and had to be extracted last year. Fine, I can still chew on the other side. Now the rootfilled molar next to the missing premolar has lost its crown and what remains is clearly fragmenting. I cannot ignore it any longer. I have a two tooth gap in front of a solitary molar on one side, and a one tooth gap in front of a solitary molar on the other side. I cannot chew properly any more.
