Has anyone took this medication and had heartburn and upper stomach pain as a side effect and when and how long did it last? I am a sufferer of on and off gastritis as it is, however I haven’t had a flare since January so it’s been a while now. I’m day 10 and this morning from 1am I’ve had crippling nausea, heartburn that feels like I’m legit breathing fire and upper stomach pain that feels exactly like gastritis 😭 I was happy because I haven’t had any side effects until now and also feeling a bit anxious as I don’t want to stop them I’ve come really far. Has this happened to anyone? Reading online on Reddit forums it seems a lot of people didn’t tolerate this med well and I’m worried I may be one of them, I can’t really see any positive stories when searching on my symptoms. :(

I’ve not had this and been on 20 for years and most recently 30.

have you tried omeprezole? You can buy over the counter

Nausea and vomiting common, not so much heartburn. Take some omeprazole or gaviscon?

I’m on 60mg, and have never had any problems with it.

I do get heartburn at times, but I’m also on other medications that I think cause it.

I’ve read all of my symptoms can happen on this, it’s really debilitating. Doctor has prescribed lansoprazole but said if the symptoms don’t go by a weeks time we will probably have to change to a different one which is really rubbish as this is the only one out of 2 others ive tried that I haven’t got manic type symptoms on 😭😭

I started 20mg in June. First no appetite for weeks, lost a stone. Then really itchy skin. After that, extreme fatigue. The latest has been upset stomach which is finally improving but has been terrible. Wondering what’s next!

I’ve been on fluoxetine for years. I get horrendous heartburn if I haven’t swallowed them properly. I think they melt before they hit my stomach and it’s so painful. I always make sure I drink loads when taking them.

Wow, you’re still having side effects a few months after? I thought it should settle by then 😭😭 I’m really confused why my side effects have only just started nearly at the two week mark, my stomach is in bits and I feel so unwell :( I really want to try and stay on them if I can

Hope you feel better soon. I’m getting there. But yes it’s been rough! Still, I would rather have good MH and not so great physical, than the other way round. So I’ll persevere.

This may sound odd but my dog was put onto fluoxetine by our vet, 32mg a day. She's had the most horrific gastric issues for the last 6 months, so bad that I've now taken her off it. And touch wood, she's 3 weeks off them after the withdrawal process and her digestive system appears to be slowly recovering.

From the list of side effects on the leaflet, most of them seemed to involve the gut as 90% of the body's serotonin is produced and used in the digestive tract.

I have been talking it for 25 years. I have found if it doesn’t travel in the stomach before it bursts it caused problems. I have to drink a whole glass of water to make sure it’s gone down.
