High hemoglobin

My husband had blood tests a few weeks ago in advance of starting glp1, last Monday he got a call from the surgery saying he needed a chest x-ray due to a high hemoglobin level, yesterday he got a call from the local hospital offering him the x-ray today so from blood results to x-ray in three days, this has me very nervous. He's been really worn out for months, we put it down to poor diet, overweight and working away Monday to Friday, recently even mowing the lawn caused him to sweat excessively. He has sleep apnea and uses a cpap but not absolutely consistently. He has also had a cough but paid no heed because any time he gets a cold he gets a cough which hangs around for ages. He's 58 and we've no family history because he's adopted. Has anyone been through similar?

Unlikely, it doesn't appear to be increased iron but high hemoglobin. I am familiar with haemochromatosis, a friend was diagnosed years ago and is managing it quite well.

I have a raised haemaglobin and haematocrit , first got picked up in 2016 when I was being extensively tested for fatigue , nausea and weight loss . I was given a venesection and then followed up by haematology . I was fully investigated including a referral to a specialist nuclear medicine dept at Guys and they can’t find a cause other than I have large misshapen red cells . I’m officially diagnosed with secondary polycythaemia and it has zero effect on my life other than having yearly blood tests at my GP . I hope it works out as well for your husband .

Thank you, unfortunately I did exactly what I'd advise others nit to and I googled causes which has frightened me. So glad it turned out well for you.
