Nasty picture attached.**
I stubbed it earlier on something cast iron.
The underside is mostly pink.
It's swollen alot and obviously painful.I have a high pain threshold so managed at work.
Do you think it's broken.?

Having broken my little toe several times - yes I am that clumsy! I’d say it definitely looks broken, particularly with that spectacular level of bruising. I echo other pp though there is no point in sitting in MI because even if they do get round to xraying it they will simply buddy wrap it (and not necessarily well).
Put some lint or soft pad on the bruising and around the toe then strap it to the next one. I put some zambouk on the bruise which helps. Flat shoes with a wide toe box. Good luck.

I broke two toes by dropping a cast iron parasol holder on my foot. I got appropriate strapping from Amazon and treated it at home myself after advice from my niece who is an A&E consultant. Ugly to look at and took a while to repair but all perfect now. Hope yours repairs quickly.

Well did you go to a&e @whatisforteamum

FWIW I don't think it's broken - but what do I know?

lilkitten · 24/09/2026 13:34

Probably is. I've broken both my little toes (both in Australia where we didn't wear shoes much - one while climbing rocks, the other stubbing on the sofa), but there's not much you can do apart from strapping it to the next toe.
I hurt my big toe a few months ago, falling down the stairs. I went to A&E only because being the big one they advise checking as it's more critical for balance. They said it wasn't broken, though it looked like this. However my DP is finishing his medical degree and thinks it might have had a tiny fracture, it's still numb and tingly several months on.

Strap it to the next 2 toes and buy yourself a pair of Fitflops as they have a heavy sole. Without them your holiday will be hell. Take plenty of paracetamol and ibuprofen with you as you can as they are not that easy to get hold of unless you go to a pharmacy.

Thanks all.I feel it maybe badly bruised.3 days on its faded a bit just annoying now as it's tender not painful.
