Flu symptoms every month

Does anybody know what might cause a woman to experience these symptoms which seem to start from day 10 post menstruation and resolve a few days before period starts? Moreover does anyone have a solution as it’s really getting me down now. I’m 43 and this has been going on about a year.

-really sore body pains- in joints particularly- ankle, wrists, collarbones. Feels like when you have the flu
-headaches
-chills

Im feeling unwell like this every month now and like I need time off work- feels like a proper illness.

Any clues?

I had this - it’s hormonal drops. Bit much, isn’t it. 💐

GP needs to test your hormone levels and prescribe accordingly. Can be fixed!

It’s sooooo convincing, too.

Malaria?

My hormones were tested on day 1 of period and my levels (fsh) were normal. Is there any other hormone I can ask to be tested?

yes its horrible!

Excuse me?

Yes, malaria can feel like a flu, and it comes in regular waves.

Oh ok thanks for clarifying.

I had no idea! I think I need to see GP

I’ve had this from time to time. I kept feeling like I was really coming down with something and then my period would arrive and I’d feel fine! I looked it up and found that period flu is a thing. Haven’t had it in a while but it’s bloody horrible

Period flu, hormone blood tests are fairly useless and just a snapshot moment in time. Symptoms are better gauge.
Absolutely fecking sucks. But you are not alone.

Aw so there is nothing we can do?

I had it every month and went on the combined pill (for other hormonal/peri symptoms) and it stopped happening!

If you can find a health care professional who knows about menopause and perimenopause and will treat based on symptoms and not blood tests, you could try HRT.
You could also try contraceptives but they are not without some pitfalls. If you are already using contraceptives you could change and see if that helps. But contraceptives aren’t really replacing lost hormones, they’re stopping you getting pregnant.
