Would you get a second opinion?

Hi everyone,
I'd welcome your thoughts on this.

I have always had strong teeth, never anything wrong at check up. Recently I felt a violent jarring sensation while eating, which happened twice, and then my gum swelled for a bit. A tooth felt jagged under my tongue.

I went to the dentist, who said the tooth had split. X-rayed it, said the root was split and it would have to come out. Options would be a bridge or implant.

My question is whether you'd get another opinion - it's not that I mistrust the dentist at all, but I am slightly in shock that this seems to be the only choice - no question of trying to repair it. If I was someone who'd had a lot of dental problems I might find it easier to accept, I suppose. There's also a lot of money involved.

A different dentist would do the work (at the same practice). Would that be enough of a second opinion if this was you? Do you think this 2nd person would accept the the diagnosis or consider making their own? (if I had two say the same thing it would be easier to accept)

If the tooth has split down below the gum line then removal is the only treatment. Then you decide whether to have an implant or bridge. If it it partial - but might more usually be described as a crack and above the gum line root canal with a crown might be possible. If your dentist is say split and it needs to come out I’m really not sure I would bother with a second opinion.

Thanks - I had read this about the gumline, as well as the dentist saying it. I just wondered if there was any leeway or room for professional differences, depending how low the crack went or something.
Some sites say don't accept implants without two opinions, but that may apply when many teeth are involved I suppose, and the cause is less clear cut
