Bottom worries

Ok I’ve Nc for this as embarrassing.

For years I’ve suffered with my bottom. Had piles for a while but I think they healed. What I’ve been left with is a lot of fleshy folds of skin around my anus. It really looks a mess down there and can get itchy and bleed quite often too.

I’ve seen my GP multiple times, last time was a year ago so it’s not like it hasn’t ever been looked at. I also had clear FIT and blood tests done a year ago too. It genuinely looks like a small brain down there due to the amount of fleshy lumps and bumps.

It isn’t often painful. Irritating sometimes but not painful. However I always end up worrying that it could be something worse like anal/rectal cancer. It has been this way for years and there doesn’t seem to be any treatment other than laser removal which I really don’t want.

Needless to say I can’t really discuss with anyone irl so I just wondered if anyone else has had anything like this and how you manage it?

Sorry about this, you're not the only one though, such a common thing if you've had a baby or as you get older and pelvic veins starts to struggle to return blood to your heart. So this may be the 'remainder' of your piles so basically anal skin tags. You can read more about them here: https://birminghambowelclinic.co.uk/anal-skin-tags/ I think you can get them removed, but if you are having surgery on your bum things can get infected - so do research the pros and cons before heading down this route. Your GP should easily be able to diagnose this.

I’ve had it looked over by a GP at least 3 or 4 times over the years. I guess as it’s remained stable and been there for so long they aren’t concerned. It’s just grim to be honest. But I don’t think the risks are worth it for cosmetic purposes which is predominantly what it is.

Gross I know but have you looked at photos of anal cancer etc?
im 46, got diagnosed with colon cancer at 44 after 8-10years of random symptoms and to and fro from drs.
if in doubt…. DEMAND a colonoscopy to rule anything else out x

I’ve had two colonoscopies, admittedly a long time ago but I still had these issues then (to a lesser extent). I think I got the first tag in my early twenties and now 40. So it’s longstanding. But yeah my last colonoscopy was about 6 years ago and was clear. I do worry about the area in general as it’s definitely not ‘normal’ but I just need to know it’s not dangerous.
