Post Surgery bug and anxiety/panic

Hi all, I had open surgery last Wednesday under spinal anaesthetic for a femoral hernia. I had bad diarrhea and nausea the 2nd day but put this down to the painkillers I was given so I stopped them. I was fine for 2 days then I woke up at 4am Monday being violently sick and horrendous diarrhea. The vomiting stopped Monday night but the diarrhea has continued. All I have eaten since Sunday is half a piece of plain toast. I am drinking lots of fluids and rehydration sachets.
I now have what feels like a migraine and vertigo and just feel a bit weird and almost detached from my body. I don't know if this is from lack of food or a continuation of the bug. I'm also taking cyclizine 3 x a day so not sure of its side effects.
I worked myself into a massive panic attack tonight as I'm so sick of feeling ill and trying to recover from the op. I do suffer from emetephobia so I'm not sure if I'm just in a highly anxious state due to the fear of vomiting again..
Not sure why I'm posting really, just needed an outlet as I'm sure my Husband is fed up of trying to reassure me that I'm not dying!

Wondered if anybody else had anything similar post op?
I have spoke to the hospital and Dr and both advised likely a bug and they've taken a stool sample to check for hospital infection

What about ringing 111 for a bit of reassurance or some help. Its scary worrying about your health and feeling unsafe

I'd be calling 111 too. I hope you feel better soon.

Thank you, I've called 111 and a Dr is calling me back this evening, I'm hoping they can reassure me as I'm just panicking over every little symptom at the moment.

It could be C.Diff or a similar bug from the hospital. That will show up in your sample though. It is really unpleasant, but antibiotics will clear it up. Hope you feel better soon.

Unfortunately, it's likely you picked the bug up in hospital. I was in hospital many years ago, seriously ill with meningitis and septicemia, and on top of this I caught a chest infection too.

You are recovering from an operation, and now unwell with a bug, it's natural for you to be scared and anxious. You are feeling rubbish and extremely vulnerable.

A call from a GP, is a good idea anyway. Hopefully he/she will be able to reassure you and advise.

I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks all, I spoke to the Dr, he thinks it's a combination of dehydration from the bug and anxiety causing the weird sensations. I got a few hours sleep so feel marginally better this morning.
Just eaten a banana, fingers crossed I can start to eat a bit more today then start to feel a bit better.

You're right Sassylovesbooks I am feeling so vulnerable, I've never had surgery before and I didn't realise how anxious it would make me after. I suppose coupled with the bug it's made it even worse. Part of me before the op was looking forward to the rest! But I'd give anything to be up and about and back to normal now!

Thank you! Appreciate your kind words. I had no idea I'd feel like this, I keep randomly bursting into tears and just feel really low.. I really wasn't prepared for feeling like this
