DT2 (4.6) has been complaining of earache all day, she's had brufen and calpol at regular invervals, also has runny nose, sore throat an irritating cough, off her food, whingy and tired - a cold IMO, but when I checked nhs direct it said to call them immediately for earache in under 5s, which I did, but the man was so usless when my answers didn't fit his set questions and then lectured me on how many different services they offer (when I said yes of course its about symptoms, why else would I ring you at 8pm on a sunday) that I hung up on him but now am worried (and silly, yes I know ) so any thoughts - should she see doc tomorrow?

Earache can be really painful for children.

Brufen is ideal for ear problems so keep giving it regularly. Calpol is so so for ear infections, but probably helps the cold symptoms.

Have you tried a hot water bottle ? sometimes helps

Otherwise a trip to the docs if it gets worse is probably in order.
