Anyone else dealing with the awful symptoms of TMJ disorder?

TMJ /D anyone suffering with this awful condition?

I've had it for years and years. When I get a flare up I know about it, but then, like the rest of my hypermobility, it's largely under control.

My friend ended up having a jaw replacement for hers. She has a diagnosis of fibromyalgia, but I’m pretty convinced that she’s actually got EDS. Though her GP won’t refer her due to the fibromyalgia diagnosis.

Yes l have it and it can be very painful on times . What l wasn't prepared for was that it is affecting my ear as well. I can't put any earbuds in to listen to music and l really miss it . I have headaches and am tender around my ear and jaw . What l found helped was eating very soft food and dropping my jaw a lot so wasn't tight all the time . The worst thing is having to keep my mouth open at the dentists my jaw is awfully painful for days after. Good luck @AuntieMaidens.

I had it a good few years ago. It was caused by 2 new dental crowns that were too big and they disrupted my normal bite and that resulted in the TMJ pain. I had the crown issue fixed but the jaw muscles were still going into tension. Valium worked to relieve it but you can't be taking that all the time. And swimming relieved it. I think because my jaw relaxed in the water.

My friend has Botox in her jaw for this and has really helped.

I had arthrocentesis which helped a lot then Invisalign to put my teeth into a more stable position. Without anti-inflammatories, my pain levels are about 10% of what they used to be.
