Has one small health change genuinely improved how you feel day to day?

I have been thinking about how easy it is to feel overwhelmed by all the health advice we hear about better sleep, more exercise, supplements, drinking more water, cutting things out of our diets, and so on.
I’m curious about the ordinary things that have actually made a noticeable difference for real people.
Has there been one small change to your routine that genuinely improved your energy, sleep, stress levels, or general wellbeing? Nothing dramatic or expensive, just something simple that you’ve managed to stick with.
Would be interested to hear what worked for you and how long it took before you noticed a difference.

A 20 minute walk before work (WFH). I have more energy for the whole day

(Immediate benefit from day 1)

Not looking at my phone in bed. I sleep better.

Eyesopenwideawake · 30/08/2026 20:53

Yup. A daily smoothie made of beetroot, carrot, apple, mixed red fruit, greek yoghurt, protein powder and creatine. Healthy, filling, cheap, easy and sustainable. Huge game-changer.

A cup of camomile tea and no phones/ipad before bed just read a book

paomara · 30/08/2026 20:55

Magnesium glycinate at night for sleep zzzzz.

Have to add another - more fibre in the mornings. Great result and bloat reduced. I add milled chia, milled flax, oat bran and wheat bran to one weetabix, top with some mashed fruit, hot water (no milk) and Andrex is my friend. 😂

You are definitely not alone in feeling overwhelmed by all the advice online. With ongoing back and neck problems, a physiotherapist or qualified trainer could help you begin with a few gentle strength exercises that suit your body and gradually build from there.

Lots for me!

No. 1 would be get up early and exercise most mornings. Just do it.

A smaller one which is more beauty than health is snail mucin. I have decentish skin for late 40s and this is definitely one that helps.

I do all of the things you listed 😂 But keeping to regular bed times has really helped me. I’m always asleep by 1030pm (even if it’s the weekend - unless it’s the odd occasion when I’m out) and I tend to wake up naturally at about 7am. I fall asleep really quickly now, whereas it used to take me ages to drop off.

Yes but expensive unless you were planning to do it anyway. Planning the new kitchen with my back injury in mind. Eye level ovens. Drawers. Full height fridge and freezer. I haven't agrivated it since the kitchen was finished.

How do they get the snail mucin?

Stillhot · 30/08/2026 21:14

The obvious one for me is giving up alcohol.

thisgirlwantsmore · 30/08/2026 21:28

I am generally very health conscious but the biggest thing is stopping drinking. It’s isolated to maybe 5 x a year now and it amazes me how awful I feel afterwards, how tired I am, how flushed my face is, how bloated I am after even just a handful of drinks

Yes I was wondering this 🐌 🔪

Minasama · 30/08/2026 21:39

Eating less.
Strengthening core by going on all fours, stretching out left leg and right arm and holding for 10, then the reverse leg and arm. Repeat x 5 each morning. Sorted my leaky bladder!

thetinsoldier · 30/08/2026 21:42

Great thread!

For me, 10 mins of yoga to start the day. It gets you stretching and mindful.

Vitamin d and magnesium (mixed types). I think vitamins are underrated and under appreciated for what they help with. Not a cure but when you are desperate for even small improvements they are very beneficial. Taking them consistently is difficult and the improvements are so gradual though that the improvements sort of creep up on you.

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 30/08/2026 23:04

regular functional/weight exercise routine. I used to run 3-4x a week but nothing else, I’ve swopped half my runs for 40 mins of exercise (Apple fitness routines).

newmenewwhatever · 31/08/2026 10:51

I walk for 45 minutes every day after my evening meal.
i also eat nothing after my evening meal until noon the following day

AatoZz · 31/08/2026 15:29

Daily walks after breakfast and dinner.

Octavia64 · 31/08/2026 15:30

Iron tablets.

i was very low iron.

AlwaysPurple · 31/08/2026 15:48

Daily iron tablets. Realised during pregnancy how much better I felt. Tried dropping them afterwards, and realised it was the iron that was making me feel much less tired.
