Pregnancy scan update after suspected ovarian cyst was no longer visible

thought i’d update this forum because iv posted a lot about my journey throughout this pregnancy and my miscarriage when they found a cyst and was looking for advice.
this is where i’m currently at : it’s a long one so hold on tight😂
had my dating scan today & the scan went amazing i’m measuring 12+6d & no cyst was found on either ovaries so maybe it wasn’t a dermoid cyst? the sonographer was amazing and she explained everything even down the baby! she was really knowledgeable (she explained she had just done training for scanning different kinds of cysts) and wasn’t concerned about anything, both ovaries looked perfect. i didn’t realise dermoids could just disappear like that but the sonographer said it could’ve been a ovulation cyst..🤷🏻‍♀️
she was really thorough and looked all around and nothing concerning was found.

well, I have a little boy who is six and when I was pregnant with him, I had no cyst present then that’s why when they told me last time that I had a dermoid I was really shocked.
i remember when they found the cyst at my miscarriage scan then they scanned me again a week later & couldn’t see the cyst and same again today she couldn’t find it, i wonder if they did actually misdiagnose me and it was a functional cyst. I think when i go back for my scan at 20w i will ask for them to have another good look for it! i always thought dermoids had to be surgically removed so was shocked to find mine wasn’t there any more but like i said unless they misdiagnosed me.

It’s very hard to diagnose the type of cyst from a scan, usually it’s a best guess based on density. But it’s also really hard to find and measure cysts unless they are large - do you know the size it was supposed to be?

dermoids are odd. They’re not supposed to reoccur, and yet mine were back within 18months of surgery to remove them. Like most female health problems, there just isn’t the research out there

maybe they did get it wrong then? it was 3.4cm from when i spoke to GP.
i was completely unaware of a cyst until i had that scan in April but then to find that it has disappeared has made me wonder if it wasn’t actually dermoid because i’m sure they have to be surgically removed?

If it was early on in the pregnancy it could have been a corpus luteum cyst. This develops after ovulation and supports the pregnancy until the placenta takes over. They then disappear.

yes i was only 5weeks when i had the miscarriage. i’m just concerned as to why they diagnosed the cyst as a dermoid with the measurements & imaging. My understanding is that a dermoid cyst is generally a persistent type of cyst and does not normally disappear spontaneously.
If i’m honest iv contacted PALS and going to get a second opinion.
