Changing consultants

Hi
Does anyone know how I can request to change hospital consultants? I have been given a new one, and I find him quite difficult - he doesn’t listen, talks over me, waves away my questions and has now noted the wrong thing in a clinical letter. I’ve had 2 meetings with him in the last few months and things are not improving.

I’d really prefer a female consultant also but not sure if such requests are acceptable.

It depends what specialty and if there is a choice. For example in my area there's me and that's it for miles. There just isn't someone else to change to.

However other than purely practical issues nobody minds. I'd see your GP and ask if they can refer you for a second opinion.

@WeRock is it private or NHS? Very easy to change privately. I changed gynaes when I lost trust in the first one after my post surgery support was woeful.

Thank you everyone! I called my GP surgery this morning and they recommended asking the hospital, which I did and they said it was no problem to change. So very easy, for some reason I doubted myself!

I changed my consultant, I contacted PALS and explained the situation, they helped sort it out.
