Dental advice, please

I think I’m going to have to go back to the dentist. I’m an anxious patient, so I’m looking for a bit of advice or explanation first.

About 4w ago I went to the dentist because I had toothache. I had a sore gum on the inside, near my palate, and it hurt to bite and chew. But the tooth involved is root-filled and crowned. Of course, by the time I saw the dentist the pain was almost gone. She x-rayed the area. The ‘hurting’ tooth is my first molar. The adjacent tooth, my second premolar, is also root-filled but the crown on that one failed and I have a gap there. Just the filled root is left. It’s been like this for 25y with no problems.

The dentist found nothing of concern on the x-ray. She said that the tip of the premolar root has a cyst around it, which indicates an old infection, but not something that needs any action.

But ever since this started I bleed in that area when I brush. The gum swells up for a few days, then goes down. I have a constant mild discomfort there, and often a weird metallic taste when I press my tongue against the slightly sore bit of gum.

What is going on? Any ideas?

I've no medical background, but if I were you, I'd go back to the dentist, or at least send an email with the description you've given here, asking if you be concerned about it.

Agree - go back to your dentist. But in the meantime, you could try Corsodyl toothpaste and mouthwash for gum disease.

She says I don’t have gum disease.
