Hi ... I just wondered if any of you out there have had any experience of chronic constipation with your kids? My friend (no really!) has just called me and she is really, really worried about her 3 year old daughter who has suffered with constipation for around a year now. It is getting worse and her little one is currently on 20mls of Lactulose a day. Fortunately, they have an appointment with a paediatrician next week, but she is worried that her little one may have bowel cancer. I'm sure it isn't, but does anyone know of any possible reasons why her daughter is so constipated (it's certainly not diet related as this is fine)? She is toilet trained for wees, but absolutely refuses to do a poo (when she needs one)on the toilet and has to wear a nappy. She also gets a very distended stomach and cries with tummy pain at times. Any info I can pass on to reassure my friend would be great.

x

This was discussed not that long ago, and lots of people posted their experiences of chronic constipation in children. It is not uncommon, but it does need to be sorted out asap, as delays can cause the problem to get worse, and it will then take longer to correct. Rather than try to go over everthing again, have a search of the message boards using contipation as the search word, and you will get lots of info
