Worried after gallbladder polyp scan and sonographer’s questions about surgery

Yesterday, I had an US on my gallbladder as I have a polyp. Over the last 6 years it has grown in size and the last time it was 7.6mm. When I had the scan yesterday they asked me after a thorough scan (I’m usually in and out in 10mins) if I had seen a surgeon about it and then he asked what my alcohol consumption is. I hardly drink! I’m so worried. I know it’s positive that he was very thorough but he made me very anxious with his questions with no explanation. The results will be back in a week.

Did you ask him why he was asking?

Louisa99 · 07/08/2026 09:20

No, he was very unapproachable. I know it sounds ridiculous that I didn’t ask but I suffer with health anxiety and I didn’t feel he would put me at ease in any way.

@Louisa99 that sucks. Why are these people so insensitive when people are in a vulnerable state? Sorry that happened to you.

I also have a polyp being measured. Over the years I have had vastly different reactions from the person doing the scan. Always the same result- come back in a year. It’s been 11 years of monitoring! Now I just ask for the measurements myself. If it is less than 10mm they monitor, over that they remove it incase it turns dodgy

i am a health care professional and 1 year I had someone I know through work doing the scan. He massively helped me as he said it’s impossible to see if it is a true polyp or a stone starting that will pass and he said it was ridiculous that I had been told it was something to
wp about

Worry about- sorry I have had a small drink!

Thank you everyone for replying. It has really helped the anxiety.
