GP suspects appendicitis and offered hospital or pain relief only - WWYD?

I’ve just been to the GP re pain I’ve had.
started yesterday in lower left quadrant - I assumed was ovary linked as I often get ovulation pain. I’d say that pain was around a 6. I took painkillers and was fine.

Today pain is between a 5 (at good points) and 9. Went to doc’s - pain in now lower right quadrant. When it’s around 8-9 I have to walk slowly, all hunched over, but it does come and go in terms of intensity. The doctor felt around and thinks it’s my appendix. I’ve got a pretty high pain threshold but today has challenged me - a lot!

He's given me the choice of stronger painkiller and see how to goes; or go to hospital.

I know that you’re not doctors but what would you do? Because I don’t want to feel like I’m wasting anyone’s time and I also hate hospitals.

That’s good news .. at least one serious thing is definitely ruled out. Hopefully you can get to the bottom of it soon x

The NHS really needs to catch up, infection markers can be checked quickly and cheaply with a fingerprick test, results in 5 minutes.

OP go to the hospital, get checked out properly, hopefully with a scan.

Mine was removed with an open surgery, got a massive scar from it. Wonder if they opted for open surgery because I was pregnant so not so easy to see what's going on (they couldn't even see I had appendicitis in the first few scans because my massive foetus hid it, finally spotted with MRI) or because it was manky (had a tumour and covered with mucinous cystadenoma)

Honestly. Unless you live in Outer Mongolia all are readily available online within 24hrs.

Thing is, it wasn't appendicitis (good to hear op), but if she was still unwell and presented again today with similar or worsening symptoms having bloods even a temp and pulse recorded would give someone an idea of improving or worsening conditions. Imagine that! A gp doing very basic tests.

GPs doing fuck all and saying 'go to a&e if it gets worse' should not be how they work. Sadly unless it's a prescription or sick note they seem so very out of their depth nowadays.

yes having another human in there to think about can change the decision making.

On the plus side, while the scar was massive on my pregnant belly, it shrunk with my belly after giving birth.

I was going to post when I first read your thread that my endometriosis was mistaken for appendicitis several times, turned out to be big cysts on my ovaries plus stage 4 endo
