ds operation for undescended testicle has not worked!

Hi mums

My ds had an operation to bring down hi testicle two months ago. We went to see the consultant last week and he says that the testicle has still not descended. I am confused and upset that the operation has not done what is was supposed to do. In his post-op notes it stated that both testicles were in the scrotum but now it is not. Since his op I have never seen the testicle that was operated on so I am angry with the surgeon. We were told to wait and see if it comes down for 6 months then if not he will have to an the same operation again!

Oh, sorry, have no advice, bu my friends ds (hes nearly 3) testicles havnt descended, and shes a litle worried. I know it must be worrying.
Was anyting else suggested?

Hi flubdub

Thanks for the sentiment

No nothing else has been suggested just surgery. Has your friend taken her ds to see a GP/consultant? We were told that it was best to sort this out as early as possible...

When you say you have never seen the testicle since the Op,Was it descended Post Op at all?

Occasionally I believe the Testicle will still "disappear" back into the Groin, but would still be descended some/most of the time.

The Surgeon would be aware of this though.

Maybe the "stitch" that holds the Testicle in situ has loosened allowing it to retract again, maybe your DS was "too active" during his Recovery time?

The operation sounds like it was successful, but something has happened afterwards.

As he says, maybe during the next 6 mths it will descend,as they normally(if memory serves me correctly) lengthen the cord that allows it to retract and descend, before stitching,so it may still descend permanently.

yes she did, and was told to wait, and if nothing happened, the would operate.
This may sound a little crude, but the gp was able to pull her ds's testicles down with his fingers, although they did jump back up. I dont know if that means theyre lower down than it needs worrying about?

Hi Sawyer

When we opened his nappy after getting home from the op - there was no left testicle in his scrotum so if it was down it went back up pretty quickly (few hours. Have never seen it - I see the other one all the time popping in and out!!

Guess we will have to wait and see

I guess so.

It has to be able to retract as a protective mechanism I think.

But it does sound a little odd,so maybe you are right.

Lets hope it sort itself out in the next 6 months.
