Impacted wisdom tooth extraction

I had a severely impacted wisdom tooth removed 3 weeks ago. It is still painful, my face is still a bit swollen and I can still only open my mouth partially. The dentist thinks I have an infection so gave me 5 days of penicillin but it still feels the same and today is the last day of my antibiotics. It’s sore in both jaws, my cheekbone and up to my temple. I am completely fed up with it now and have been maxing pain killers for 3 weeks which isn’t great. I am 51 which I think makes extraction more difficult. Does anyone have any advice please?

You may need stronger, different antibiotics. I had the same issue and needed 3 different courses of antibiotics to completely clear the infection. Ring whoever removed it and have it checked and go from there.

Thanks. That’s what I’m hoping for. I want them to give me metronidazole as well. I just don’t want any treatment because my mouth got ulcerated from the procedure and and my jaw is still not opening.
