Any dental advice?

I had a wobbly tooth. Saw dentist today. She said ah yes the crownen and pulled it straight out. Now I have a gap, and the root is ok apparently. But from googling she should have protected the root? She didn't do anything. Said I can leave the gap and listed more expensive alternatives. Just not sure if tooth ok just left as it is? Bit shaken as expected her to say I'm going to take this out. Thanks for any reply.

She probably knows what she's doing, OP. The wound will need to heal up before anything else can happen. I hope you find a good solution.

If it was an emergency appt it might not have been possible to take the root out fully because of timing. It can be time-consuming to take out buried roots. As you say, the crown was loose so it sounds like she was stabilising you by getting rid of that- it might have been a choking risk had it been left.

Is there a wound?

I have a failed crown ‘on’ a tooth that was previously root canal filled. The root remains in my jaw, with a tiny margin protruding. As soon as the crown failed (the root post was not high enough to support it for long) the dentist put in a temporary filling while I decided what to do. That was 25y ago and the filling has been replaced once.
