Carpal Tunnel Syndrome..

A week or so ago I started getting itchy/stinging sensations in the tips of my thumb and index finger. A couple of days later my wrist started to ache, this has now progressed to being very painful and shooting up my forearm. The pain is waking me up during the night it’s that bad. Can anyone with CTS let me know if this is how theirs started? I am going to book a doctors appt this week but due to work it won’t be until Wednesday earliest. Tonight is probably the worst it has been so far and very sharp pains in my wrist and thumb when using that thumb to type on my phone.

Ive got this. I found using a hand splint helped a lot. I wear them at night but at the moment im having to wear it during the day too.

last year it got so bad my left hand felt as if it was burning and i had to keep putting it in cold water. After a week of this i got a dr. Appt and had an injection into my left wrist which worked very well. It has lasted about 9 months so i think i will have to go back and do it again soon.

if you look online there are some exercises which may help.

hope you find something that helps.

if all else fails there is surgery which i believe can cure it.

Hows your arm/hand now? Im getting a second steroid injection tomorrow so hope it is as effective as the first one.

I had all your symptoms for a considerable time and NHS gave splints, and splints did nothing. I went private for surgery, as advised that the issue is eased by steroids for a while but can only be used for a time and masks not cures. Op on both hands, game changer!

Hi I had this for 8 years. Kept getting the steroid injection.
I had so many within the 8 year period they said I needed the operation!
what a game changer. Even straight after the operation I didn’t need any painkillers.
completely pain free.
I had it done under local. It took around 10 minutes!! Amazing!!!

Do you wake up with numb hands as though you’ve slept on them? Mine started like this. I had a few steroid injections then had an operation (on the NHS) and it totally cured it. The operation took about 5 minutes and it took about a week to recover and a couple of weeks until I was able to use it properly but it was totally worth it.
I actually had it in both hands and the operation on my right, seemed to mostly cure my left too. Get to the doctor and get an injection and it might sort it out.

So the GP said even though I have all symptoms of carpal tunnel, because the pains came on so quickly he’s hesitant to say it’s definitely CTS, as that’s more over a couple of weeks/months? He gave me anti inflammatory meds and a splint and a follow up appointment for 4 weeks later. I’m currently on week 2 of wearing the splint and so far it’s doing fuck all to help!

What splints are you using? Mine did help but I wore them 24/7. (Mine did come on overnight but I was pregnant at the time so don’t know if that changes things)

Just had another steroid injection - bliss!

My GP did a blood test to rule out arthritis and diabetes then told me there was nothing they were prepared to do and to go away and stop wasting their time.

I get it as part of rheumatoid and osteo arthritis. Splints at night are your best bet. If they don't improve anything, think instead about shoulder impingement which can masquerade as carpal tunnel. I get both!
