I have a referral to a dermatologist regarding the small darker freckle in the middle of this photo. Does this look sinister? Im so scared. Its about 3mm in size

It looks like an ordinary freckle.

If it’s melanoma, it’s so minuscule that the chances are they’ll simply be able to remove it in a matter of minutes and you’ll never need any other kind of treatment.

Do you suffer from health anxiety by any chance?

I also think it's likely just a freckle. Book in for a full skin check. It takes about an hour and they look at everything.

Bellyblueboy · 26/07/2026 22:17

Did your GP make the referral?

I have had a few referrals over the years - all were fine. Most are, but it is absolutely worth getting it checked out

in all likelihood it will be absolutely fine - to my untrained eye it doesn’t look sinister, but still worth getting a specialist to check it.

It looks like 99% of the freckles I have on my body.

No one can answer here.
If you have concerns, see your GP.

I had a video call with a GP through Bupa & they have referred me urgently to a dermatologist. GP said its an ugly duckling...ie darker than my other freckles & irregular borders. Also, last week i had a blob of blood on my shoulder & after seeing this dark freckle im thinking the blood must have come from it & that is a red flag

Please don’t ask strangers on the internet to diagnose you. It’s completely pointless.

Go through the proper channels.

thereisnomeaning · 26/07/2026 22:35

It sounds like you're onto it and have done the right thing, OP. I always think better safe than sorry. I hope you get an appointment soon to get it seen too. Either way, you're mind will be more at ease once you know.

OP, all your previous threads over the past year or so relate to you being very scared about minor health issues.

The chances are that this freckle is nothing.

If it is melanoma, which it probably isn’t, it’s so incredibly tiny that it will be very easily removed and it’s extremely unlikely that you’d even need any treatment beyond removal.

Bellyblueboy · 27/07/2026 09:25

OP in all likelihood it will be fine. As others have said it’s tiny so in the unlikely event it is something g it will be easily dealt with.

take a deep breath and wait until you see the specialist. It is absolutely the right thing to do to get these things checked out. It is extremely treatable. But this thread won’t help you. Googling won’t help you. The specialist will give you the answer.

Savvysix1984 · 27/07/2026 09:38

It looks like a freckle amongst sun spots and pigmentation. Best to get it checked though if you’re worried.

Sadcafe · 27/07/2026 09:48

The dermatologist or initially the GP can give you the answer, not people on MN from a photo, it’s always sensible to get them checked if they are worrying you but it’s also easy to convince yourself there’s an issue
