amitriptyline was started 3 weeks ago, i’ve been fine until yesterday i felt so so tired and drunk! i had to nap half way through the day, and felt so groggy and unwell!
same today, just a bit off and so tired! anxiety is peaking too very up and down on 10mg!

has anybody else has side effects? these are all day side effects after 3 weeks 🥹

What dose are you on and when are you taking it? I’ve been on it for years, started on 10mg gradually increased up to 60mg. I was advised it takes 12 hours to wear off so to always take it in the evening - I take mine at 6:30pm with my Pregabalin.

I’ve just come off it and was told it makes you really drowsy. Also told that it takes up to two weeks to take effect.

I took it in the evening so it worked over night. I’m normally an early riser but it made me drowsy first thing.

Did your prescriber give you instructions on how/when to take it?

i am on 10mg i take it at 8pm i have spoken to the nurse practitioner this evening and she has told me to take 5mg as it must be a build up in my system. It’s making me so groggy all day not just for the morning. I keep needing a nap then i’m ok for a bit although i feel ‘off’ and then i need another nap. It’s made me feel quite slow!

I was fine for the first 20 days, yesterday was day 21 and in the morning i felt like i didn’t want to wake up, i did get up and do the school run, then i did a bit of cleaning then it really hit!
i had to have a nap, then when i did the school pick up, i felt drunk! 🥴 It’s made me drowsy all day rather than just in the morning. I take 10mg at 8pm.
my anxiety has been ebbing and flowing up and down since yesterday, i have spoken to the nurse since this post and she’s told me to take 5mg and maybe wean off. She’s going to see me next week for a different medication.

how do you feel coming of? i’ve heard not so great things

Yes it sounds like it could be too strong a dose for you. I moved mine earlier - so taking it around 6.30/7pm which helped me be a bit less tired the next morning.

To be honest, I’ve come off it because I had surgery two weeks ago which has removed the nerve pain I was taking it for. I tapered off for a week - taking a half tablet by the end and don’t think I had any bad effects. However - I was taking a lot of other strong pain meds and still felt quite drowsy so they could’ve masked something.

i think so! it’s awful because it’s making me feel unwell! 🥴
i took half at 6:30pm hopefully this feeling goes away in the next couple of days and i see the GP next week but she wants me to taper off it now.

it’s no good when you have a life to be doing and you feel drowsy, drunk, tired and just awful!🥹 i had to get my husband home for the school run today i didn’t want to feel like i did yesterday i probably shouldn’t have driven yesterday.

how are you feeling now?

I’m sorry to hear you’re feeling so groggy. I hope you feel better when you decrease your dose. And definitely ask the GP for an alternative.

I have come right down off most of my pain meds now so I’m feeling much better - thanks for asking! Just need to remember to still take it slowly with DC at home for summer holidays Confused
