Dental Referral - have I just been done over?

My dentist referred me to an endodontist to investigate a fractured tooth and whether tooth could be saved by root treatment.

Prior to this, dentist had removed filling to check tooth as I was having sensitivity/pain which was eased by antibiotics. The X-ray did not reveal a fracture hence removal of the filling to check.

He could see a fracture but couldn’t tell how bad it was. He put a temporary cap on and the plan was to fit a permanent one a few weeks later if the tooth was still alive.

But further tooth pain and swollen face preempted the permanent cap and I was given further antibiotics and a referral to the endodontist for him to do microscopic check to see how bad the fracture was and whether root treatment viable.

Today I went to the endodontist expecting further investigation only to have another xray and a reiteration of what my dentist had told me about my options ie root treatment or tooth removal.

No microscope investigation as apparently that would require 40 mins, so another visit.

Am I unreasonable to feel that, £200 later and no further forward, I’ve been done over?
