Eye Lens Replacement Surgery

Has anyone had this done? I have enquired with Optical Express about laser eye surgery and they said that it wouldn’t be suitable and I would probably need lens replacement instead. I have an appointment for a consultation in a few weeks. I googled the procedure and it sounds a bit grim, not sure if im better off just sticking with the glasses. Im 50 btw.

I had it done 3 years ago at OCL in Marylebone. Amazing results. Had both done at the same time. I could read shop signs on the way home! No pain not even uncomfortable. Had sedation. Prescription was -8.75. It’s been life changing since

I know someone who had it done, went to reputable place and still has blurry vision for the princely sum of £8k. They would only do anything to rectify it up to a year after the op. So if you do decide to go ahead, ask lots of questions about how they deal with it if it goes wrong or doesn’t rectify eyesight, what guarantees do they give you. My friend did it for vanity reasons so they didn’t have to keep putting reading glasses on and off all day. My partner on the other hand uses one contact lens for reading and nothing in his other eye for mid to distance. Works really well.

As I said previously try a multifocal contact lens and see if you like that sort of vision. Although, if you do have a cataract, they'll do a lens replacement free on the NHS,

I’m having RLE next month, mid August with a surgeon at Moorfields to correct my -7.5 sight. Both eyes on the same day. I should be able to see distance and middle sight perfectly and need reading glasses for some things. I’ll have slight mono vision in my dominant eye. I can’t wait. The surgeon I’m seeing is very thoughtful and conservative. I can’t wait. Cost £10K

How long is it after the op before you can drive? I'm waiting to be contacted for NHS surgery (I'm hoping I can "upgrade" to multifocal lenses).

Best thing I ever did- I was -14 and -12 with astigmatism and then cataracts. I went to Optegra and had EDOF lOLs. I needed YAG laser treatment a couple of months afterwards but that was included in the price. I wear glasses for reading and that’s it. It has absolutely changed my life.

I would go moorfields or ocl or face and eye rather than optical express.

I had it done about 2 years ago when I was mid 40s. both done at the same time. Beat decision. Go for it

I’ve saw three “fancy” surgeons before I made my choice. I chose the one who listened to me, really explained all the trade offs, didn’t make it seem easy and who had done at least 30,000 ops. There’s a huge correlation between issues and surgical procedures.

I’ve only got one good eye really. Had cataracts for years. Had cataract removed from my weak eye and lens replaced in March - amazing results considering I haven’t ever had good vision in that eye. Having the other eye done next week. First one done on the nhs. Have chosen to go private for second op as it’s my dominant eye and having a bifocal lens to avoid wearing reading glasses. Cost just over £4k

Had lens replacement in both eyes last September. Have had some issues which are ongoing, but we seem to be getting there now. I had YAG treatment a few weeks after the operation, and am due to have some laser treatment to sharpen my vision further as I’d lost some of my distance since the op. (I’ve been wearing glasses with a prescription in to check it’s the right prescription tweak for me and it had worked).
. My OH was done on the same day and his worked perfectly with no issues at all! Mine cost £7.4k, his cost a bit more, due to an astigmatism.

Honestly, @lilifor4, the afternoon after my operation, I almost cried when I realised just how great my eyesight had become. It made me realise that my vision has never actually been good, even when I was a child. I think it just wasn't quite bad enough to do anything about until I reached my mid-30s.
It has truly been life-changing, and I can't stop telling everyone about it 😁.

I upgraded to Teleon Comfort lenses, which are classified as an extended depth of focus lens rather than a traditional varifocal or multifocal intraocular lens, and include a toric correction for my astigmatism. I did try varifocal glasses four or five years ago and absolutely hated them. It was like looking through a narrow window with blurry edges. These lenses are completely different though, and the results are incredible.
