Thrush in my ears!

Anyone else had this? My ears have been driving me crazy for months and the Dr swabbed and confirmed its thrush. I’ve been using canneston drops which unfortunately haven’t helped much.

I’m sure this has to be linked to perimenopause as my ears have always been fine until recently and it seems to have coincided with all the other perimenopause symptoms.

Do you use in ear ear phones? These gave me a nasty dose of ear thrush. It was so bad I ended up having to see an ENT doctor privately. He was adamant it was from a lot of ear bud use and not menopause (I’m mid fifties). I had a longer course of drops and a flucanosole dose (you can buy these tablets over the counter I believe).

This is going to sound weird but bear with me. Many years ago I suffered from recurrent thrush. Eventually I saw a GUM consultant who said that in his experience a fungal problem in one place makes it difficult to eradicate one anywhere else, so he advised me to try athlete's foot treatment at the same time as the vaginal treatments. I had no obvious signs of athlete's foot so I was highly sceptical but it worked.

More recently I had a fungal infection in my ear. I wear hearing aids and was advised that until the problem cleared up, cleaning the bits that go in my ear would be insufficient however meticulous I was. I should only put my aids back in if they had brand new domes. I don't know whether this is possible with your earbuds but it's possible that you're reinfecting yourself and it might be worth looking at your cleaning regime.

Thanks, I don’t wear ear buds or put anything in my ears but I did have an issue with wax so used olive oil in my ears for several weeks which I think probably didn’t help!
