Early I started getting pins and needles in my fingers, was speaking gobbledegook a little and when I sent a couple of WhatsApp it took me ages because I kept writing the wrong word and then I was struggling to understand what was reading. Then got a dull headache and took ibuprofen and had a short nap.

woken up and all fine now.

is that normal? My son was convinced I was having a stroke but surely I wouldn’t be fine now?

the last few weeks I’ve not been getting my full 8 hours which I do tend to need and I’ve been drinking a lot of coffee as a result! Could not be that?

You have more than enough there to take real life medical advice, which I think you should do asap

BeardySchnauzer · 16/07/2026 16:14

Oh. I guess I’ll call the helpline. Thanks!

Yes call 111 for advice. It could also be a migraine, but better to be seen in case.

BeardySchnauzer · 16/07/2026 16:17

Thanks. The headache was very dull

This could be a few things, such as migraine, epilepsy, stroke……best not to rely on us randomers. Get some real medical advice. Good luck.

BeardySchnauzer · 16/07/2026 16:33

Yes thanks - have called and getting a call back.

I'm a bit of a non fuss maker so would be like the knight in the holy grail 🤣

That could be a TIA
have you checked your BP?
Have you got a temp?
How old are you?

BeardySchnauzer · 16/07/2026 16:57

doctor thinks TIA

TheLobsterClub · 16/07/2026 17:42

Have you had your B12 levels checked?

BeardySchnauzer · 16/07/2026 17:43

I had a full medical in February and everything was normal except vit D

BeardySchnauzer · 16/07/2026 17:43

I have been under huge amounts of stress though

doctor thinks TIA

Oh - that is what I thought
Hope You are ok

Migraine can also cause numbness in hand, especially if you are a woman going through menopause, you can also have migraine without a headache too, due to drop in hormones, according to my GP.

However numbness/pins and needles is always worth investigation I am testament to that, one of my first MS symptoms, however it was a very severe, acute attack and covered a large part of my body, see GP for possible neurological assessment/referral if they think it’s necessary. Especially with low vit D levels, this is also very common in MS patients, get on a supplement asap.

Good luck OP, I hope it’s a simple fix for you, getting a diagnosis is always the tricky bit. Push for referral/MRI.

Well I should hear back from the clinic tomorrow. Still have the headache but otherwise fine. Just have two stressed kids now

My migraines always start with pins and needles in my hand, going back 30 years or more. The pins and needles sometimes move across the hand from finger to finger. I also can’t write when I have one and often lose the words I need when speaking as well. It’s all a bit weird, but definitely migraines for me as I’ve been checked out by the GP and it’s been the same for over 30 years. Hope you get to the bottom of it soon.

dizzydizzydizzy · 16/07/2026 18:09

I was also wondering about TIA. Hope it isn’t. Glad you have sought medical advice. Please let us know the outcome.

BeardySchnauzer · 16/07/2026 18:14

Doctor said to take an aspirin and wait for referral but chase up if not heard by Monday or go to A&e if any symptoms return

feeling a bit tearful but it’s also quite hot so generally uncomfortable! Just the headache and my tongue feels bigger than usual. Pins and needles have gone.

kids and I have had a giggle over the messages I sent and DHs puzzled response!!

Have you got a B/P machine? If not get one they're only cheap, 20 quid in argos.

If it is tia you need to keep an eye on it and get back in touch with gp if BP up. I'm surprised they haven't suggested it. Headaches with altered neuro state even if fleeting should be investigated thoroughly and promptly. Good luck.

BeardySchnauzer · 17/07/2026 12:14

Went in to see the GP and it’s most likely stress related. Still going to see the stroke clinic and he’s sent me for some blood tests.

my BP is on the lower end and I have a machine at home so I’ll just keep an eye on myself and try to relax!!!
