Scrotum based daft question - please help

This may be a daft question but if I can't ask you lot who can I ask.

My ds is 7 months old. Should he have balls in his scrotum? I was not expecting anything to be there as I thought they were tucked up somewhere until they drop at pubity stage. Have I got it totally wrong.
DP doesn't know nor does his mate!!!

I'm not an expert at all, but I think it depends - they are either there at birth, or drop later, but I think it should be within the first year?
I guess if you're worried you could ask your GP? or NHS Direct?

testes should be desended when baby boys are born ( as far as i know).

Ds2 had an undecended teste.. he was kept an eye on by HV.. and was referred to have it desended for him, Having the op when he was 2.

You don't have to have the operation.. but it makes checking his balls for lumps a lot easier if both are present when he is older.. so we decided to go ahead with the op.. I would hate him to get testicular cancer.. but I wnt him to be able to check both of them.. rather than having one where he can't check it. IYSWIM.
If your ds had issues with his balls not being in the right place.. it should have been picked up on already as various health checks.

Hope that helps

The problem was more that I suddenly noticed them both like they had just appeared and I wasn't expecting too. I honestly thought they stayed tucked up until they dropped at pubity.

So what is it when the boys ball drop? (voice breaking etc)

LOL oh they will go up and down as such depending on tempreture too.. you may have noticed them more because of warmer days.

( dh says even adult balls go up and down according to how hot the weather is or how cold the sea is LOL)

as far as pubity..goes they just get bigger and develope so they can make sperm.. voice box just gets bigger and deeper voice due to hormones.. and boys will muscle up as well.

Get your GP to chack to see if they are able to bring them down. My DS' were not checked at birth for many reasons.

His were up but could be popped down manually by 18 mths, so although he was referred they came down of their own accord eventually.

Grumpy, hi

The old thing about a boys balls 'dropping' at puberty is not an literal reference to them 'dropping' into the scrotum. Its just a 'saying' really.

Both Testicles should most definitely be present in the scrotum, and easily palpable as well as somewheat visible. Just like you can see you husbands in his scrotum, you should see your Ds

What does happen is, as others have mentioned, as temperature changes the testicles move up ad down, or 'in and out' of the dangling scrotum, in order to keep them at a constant 'perfect' temperature.

In big grown up men, they move very slowly gently in a way that is almost entirely imperceptible to the man - so i'm told - its something I actually find fascinating

Anyway, to sum up, if his balls are there, it is normal. If they are not, it is likely that they are un descended and you will be offered surgery to have them 'descended' at about 12-18 months old usually. Your HV should have noticed by now as should the peadiatrician who did the first postnatal examination before you went home from the hospital.
