2 YO DD sick every day.

My DD has had a cough for the last 5-6 weeks. Dr said it was not an infection, said it was likely nasal mucous, a virus most likely (of course!). he gave abolsutely no indication on what to do about it, or when it might clear, other than to check her temperature regularly as she might have a fever at some point if virus.

That was last Wednesday. On Friday, she was sick all over DH at 1am, we thought it was a bug. She had not settled that evening, was a bit grouchy. She had fusses in bed with me and was ok after being sick. nothing more came up.

The next day, she was fine in the morning, we had a bath, and she was sick all over me, then again about hour later. A bug, we still thought. No fever with it. Once she was sick, she was fine.

She slept all night saturday night, no milk before bed, unusual for her, and woke on on sunday in a good mood. we went out for a walk, she ate little lunch, mainly a chip and half an apple! She fell asleep on way home at her nap time, but woke up after half hour, again unusual as if she sleeps in the car, she sleeps for hours, esp after being outdoors. She woke in a state, and screamed all the way home.

She was sick in evening, all over me. She just kept being sick until it was all gone. Then she was in a great mood. running around, wanting something to eat, being her normal self.

Monday, in a great mood in the morning, nap in the afternoon, woke early from nap, crabby all afternoon, really wingey and then projectile sick in the evening, again gagging and urging until nothing was left. In great mood afterwards, slept all night, and had to be woken in the morning late.

Tuesday the same, fell asleep early for nap, but napped for two hours. Woke up in a state, upset all afternoon, sick in the evening, as before.

Today, the same. Woke up in a great great mood, had a nap, woke up grumpy, sick over me. Not as much this time.

Now she is not ok. She is very upset, and crying lots, nothing is settling her.

She is normally very very happy.

She has this cough still, and when she is sick, she coughs first, has a small coughing 'fit' not as bad as a fit but a bit more than a normal cough.

She does not have a fever, and has gone right off food, not surprisingly, wants milk.

What is it? Swallowing mucous? Some odd kind of bug?

I and my DD have had more baths/showers in the last few days than in the last month !!!

All advice gratefully received

are her tonsils up?? not suggesting tonsilitis, bit when my DS1 was this age, he was constantly fighting colds etc, and because of that his tonsils were constantly swollen but not in need of antibiotics IYGWIM.

THEN, every time he coughed, he was sick!!!

turned out that the big tonsils, plus coughing, stimulated his gag reflex and that was what made him sick.

he ended up having his tonsils out at four as they just never went down tho, and after 2yrs of it, it understandably got wearing, for him as much as for us.

your DD may have large tonsils doing the same thing.....

EtonsMessCat · 25/06/2008 17:22

oh, I never heard of that! How I do I tell if her tonsils are up? Never checked!

She has had the cough for weeks tho and only just started being sick.

She is thoroughly miserable now. I think she might be sick again. Typical DH has put decent bedding on our bed....might change it!

Wow at your DS having his tonsils out at 4 Did he have a fever when his tonsils were up?

if she will let you, try and get her to open her mouth really wide and shine a torch down....if you can see them you should be able to tell whether they are big or not.

my DS1's were always touching his dangly bit, meaning they were huge!!

and he rarely had a fever....he did get lots of virus's, but rarely tonsilitis, (altho DD3 did, and she too had her's out at 4, but she also had febrile convulsions when she had tonsilitis). he snored too, which the consultant was interested in!

EtonsMessCat · 25/06/2008 17:52

DD sometimes snores [shock gets it from her father !

I will give it a try, although right now she is so grumpy she wont let me do much apart from cuddle her! She doesnt even want daddy cuddles.

if she won;t let you look, maybe try later when you are cleaning her teeth.

otherwise, take her to the docs and see if he can see??

if nothing else, if her tonsils are big, but not 'poorly', you will at least know if they could be the cause of the sickyness. if you know why, you handle it better, or at least, I do.

EtonsMessCat · 25/06/2008 18:02

I think I am going to GP tomorrow, but they are just so useless there. its alway a virus or nothing at all!

She wont let me clean her teeth at the moment 'no teeth' with a clear grumpy shake of head, then a throw onto the floor!

I hate the phrase 'oh, its just a virus'!!!

but, in this case, it may not matter if you just want them to see what her tonsils look like.

EtonsMessCat · 25/06/2008 19:22

I just did something stupid.

DD was feeling better, acting better, not 100% but better, DH was on computer in other room, been there all afternoon as had the day off, no sign of life from him and I needed milk so I took DD, who was keen to come, to the shops for milk.

Fine around the supermarket, happy in her trolley, although she wanted to lie in the baby seat! Then....

that look. that sort of burp and wide eyed stare....I shot outside, not quite outside...by the doors of sainsburys and she hurled ALL OVER ME.

AND, it was cheese . It was liquid, and cheese, solid lumps of curdled milk. Never seen that before. And boy it stank.

Did not get the shopping. DH has gone to get it!

Poor little mite. She is currently watching noddy 'reading' a book and is ok. She looks unwell though.

Drs tomorrow

DD is finally sleeping very soundly. She looks worn out. I just want to go in and scoop her up and have her sleep with me. But she will fidget all night!

Psychomum5 · 25/06/2008 22:18
