Toe nail growing backwards? Anyone had this?

I’ve had a painful big toe for months, not particularly the nail but the toe. GP is baffled by the cause and keeps prescribing strong anti inflammatories and gout meds even though bloods are fine and toe looks fine.

today I thought I have not cut the toe nail since March and it’s really short, like far shorter than I would ever have cut it. My toe is sticking out under the nail! So I googled and apparently there is a condition where your toe nail can grow backwards which causes significant toe pain.

Anyone had this? Did it just sort itself out or do I need to see someone? I am really hoping I don’t need my toenail removed! 🙈

First step is seeing a private podiatrist I'd think, or ask your GP for a referral to an NHS one.

I just looked this up! It looks terribly painful - definitely see a podiatrist.

Am going to make a private appointment for sure. It makes me feel a bit funny thinking about it to be honest.
