Tonsilitis

for the past few days I’ve not felt very well , I woke up yesterday with a sore throat and unable to swallow , it got progressively worse lastnight and had a fever , felt cold and was sweating. This morning I woke up and felt like I had been run over my whole body aches , I’ve got a temp , red and white tonsils and feel like I’m going to be sick. The doctor was able to fit me in and prescribed me with penicillin to take 2 tablets 4 times a day for 10 days as he’s said Ive got tonsillitis. I’ve never felt this ill in my life. Please tell me it gets better 😭 I’ve been unable to move all day and just about managed to shower and clothe myself for the doctors , I’ve got 3 kids and my partner is working away again tomorrow 😣

Tonsillitis is awful! I used to suffer terribly before I had mine removed. The antibiotics used to kick in pretty quick though, hopefully will be the same for you.

@MBM18without sounding dramatic I honestly feel like I’m ☠️ I’ve never had it before and I can honestly not wish this upon anyone who hasn’t had it yet. I’m praying they work fast 👏🏼 Thankyou for getting back to me☺️

We are in the same boat! Started ABs yesterday and it has improved - redness has gone down and area doesn’t feel as sore - I felt so awful yesterday morning with chills and sweating, head felt so heavy, stomach hurt and just all over crappy! Those feelings have all eased a bit but still feeling very tired. Have a little one too and it’s so awful having to parent when feeling so bad. Wish you better - hope it eases up soon 🤞

Gargle with salt water, it will really speed up the healing process. Painkillers every 4-6hrs without fail. If after 48hrs of antibiotics you're not feeling any better go straight back to the GP. Some people think tonsillitis is just a sore throat but it really isn't, it can proper take you out.

This sounds bonkers but get some hydrogen peroxide from the chemist, the one you can use for gargling or I think a brand name mouth wash called peroxyl and gargle with it every couple of hours. The bacteria will fix and oxidise and die and you’ll recover much quicker.

I became immune to the antibiotics after having tonsillitis every month and eventually had my tonsils removed but had to cope whilst on the waiting list and this tip saved me from ripping them out myself!

Aww I had tonsillitis decades ago and still remember how painful it was. My main memory was standing over the loo spitting in cos I couldn’t even swallow my own saliva due to the pain.

it does get better once the antibiotics kick in though I’m surprised they didn’t give them to you in liquid form….much easier to swallow.
