Feeling wiped out after four rounds of antibiotics for a persistent UTI

has anybody suffered anything after 4 rounds of antibiotics back to back within 5 weeks!
3 days of one
3x 7 days of 3 others.
this was because of a UTI that wouldn’t go away.
Now i’m trying to get on as normal, i had a shower, to pop to the shops and i just feel meh! 🫤 wiped out, tired etc!
i really don’t feel like myself at all. UTI has now gone, bladder pains seem to have eased but i just feel tired and fatigued now 🫩

Not for a UTI, but when I had mastitis that I was hospitalised with and needed IV antibiotics I felt rotten for ages. Spoke to the GP and she said the antibiotics were so potent that they send your whole system out of whack. Plus you've been fighting a big infection and that takes effort.

i had bladder pain for 2 days before i got my first lot of antibiotics, but the same day i had a raging tooth infection/abscess and i had the tooth pulled.

ive been pretty much in bed for 3 weeks only moving for showers, toilet, appointments etc.
i washed my hair today and had a shower but it really took it out of me, i tried to go out but i felt so tired and sicky i’m thinking the only thing it can be now is the antibiotics. I just feel icky and a bit off. I finished my last 7 day course 5 days ago 🫩

Sorry to hear. UTIs suck. Has the GP tested your urine?

that’s a lot. i would try to find a good probiotic (they aren’t all the same) and be really careful to eat healthy while your gut heals so the microbiome rebalances correctly.

We eat this

Start off with VERY small amounts

My ex partner kept getting painful UTI’s that took ages to clear.

He gave up red wine (in particular) and never had another UTI! It was amazing.

Try pro and pre-biotic too. Cut down on sugar.

Your body is “a temple!” See if you can clear out anything you think might be blighting your recovery. Even the most innocuous foods can start up some health issues.

so it’s pretty normal to feel this run down and rubbish after them?
i don’t know if it makes a difference of what i had but i had 3 days nitrofuentoin, 7 days cefalexin, 7 days co-amoxiclav and 7 days nitrofurentoin. I have ordered some probiotics from amazon called ‘alflorex’ precision biotics. I’m hoping i notice a difference 🤞

it’s been awful!
it’s given my health anxiety something to panic over that’s for sure. I never had the typical uti symptoms, i just had a real painful bladder 😥
in between this i had an irregular bleed with clots.

i went for a kidney and pelvic/renal scan, i’ve seen a private urogynae to have a check of my cervix etc. I did go to a&e during all of this and all my inflammation etc was quite high.
also at the same time as having a UTI, i also had an abscess and a tooth infection which i had pulled out the same day all of this started!
this was back on may 15th it’s been nearly 6 weeks😥

Hello again,
given the history you’ve outlined I think with all the antibiotics & dental issue it’s no wonder you’re feeling under the weather.
Take care of yourself, drink plenty of clear fluids to keep hydrated, eat light meals
to give your guts a digestive rest. Go to bed early and stay right off the booze and carbs.
Given all the tests you’ve had I think it’s just going to take time to get your mojo back. This heatwave probably doesn’t help. 💐

I completely relate!!
I've taken many courses of Amoxicillin for recurrent Sinusitis, but the last 10 day course that i finished 2 weeks ago, gave me awful palpitations for 5 days and ive felt very fatigued, anxious and just yuk.
I really don't want to take them again!
Hope we both feel better soon 🙏

I was a repeat UTI sufferer, however nitrofurantoin did cure it each time but it recurred. I am post meno not taking any HRT (didn't need it and didn't want it either!). Anyway when I had a small gynae procedure the gynae consultant recommended that I use vaginal estrogen cream to help prevent UTI. It plumps up the tissues around there, including the urethral area which can become thin after menopause and allows infection in.

That was three years ago and no infection since using vaginal estrogen cream.

If you are in peri or meno it might be worth asking GP about the cream if you are not using it already.
