Laparoscopy pre op

Hi all,

I have a planned pre - op tomorrow, i am awaiting a date for a laparoscopy.

I had my telephone assessment 2 weeks ago, does anyone know what I should expect? I assume it would be weight, height, obs and bloods?

I have been waiting over 6 months for this operation.

MRSA swab, an ECG if you are in the age category, they will listen to your chest if there are any heart murmurs

You will also have the ones you mentioned and a repeat Group save test either 2 hours before surgery or a day before.

Yeah pretty much that, I think I had a swab for MRSA and they gave me bowel prep to take before the op

Thanks both - I do wonder how long the actual op date will be from now? I don’t suppose the pre op staff will know

I was called for pre up on a Friday, operation the next Tuesday
I think the pre op is only valid for so long but can’t remember exactly

The pre op staff has some idea about the waiting times. You can ask them to put you in a cancellation list as well if you are not taking medication that needs to be stopped few days before surgery.

Some trusts do put in the wait times after pre op on their websites, it is also shared on your nhs app where you see your appointments. It’s got links for various info along with what happens at pre assessment.

The pre assessment does get expire in 3 months so most surgeries are done in that time frame.
