Private referral

I didn’t want to wait months to see a NHS Urologist so I got a private consultation with one in London and he referred me for a kidney scan at his hospital. A few days later I went back to him and asked if I could get one at a hospital close to me as I live in Glasgow and he agreed.

Would this referral still be ok for another private hospital or would I need to get my GP to refer me now.

He’s registered with the GMC and a specialist urologist. Why would you need a second referral from someone with less expertise in this area?

Is the second hospital near you private or nhs?

The second hospital would be private. I am just not sure if the original referral for the London hospital would be valid for another private hospital.

But isn't it the private consultant who has referred you to the local hospital? Why do you think you would have to get a second referral?

You should have the choice if you are self paying, insurance may have a named shortlist where they cover treatment . Or did the urologist refer to a specific clinician or clinic he knows?
