Hi tripped over and randomly my foot caught some tweezers that went through my foot and went through the skin sideways and came out the other end, I have pulled them out but my foot is really throbbing and I can put weight on it at all I have two ASD kids to care for so would like to avoid going a and e tonight . Do you think it will be okay ?
thanks

So it’s just punctured the skin layers? And then come out? Not actually gone right through your foot? Can’t quite picture the injury! Which part of the foot.
Id be surprised if it needed more than a good clean and maybe a dressing. How much has it bled?

Tepidwater · 19/06/2026 21:23

Can you a bit more clear because on the face of it… it sounds like something out of a casualty episode!

BauhausOfEliott · 19/06/2026 21:30

So they just punctured the flesh only? You won’t need A&E for that. Obviously it’s going to be throbbing; you’ve spiked your foot on some tweezers. It’s going to hurt. But it wouldn’t be any less painful if you went to A&E.

Wash it in warm water and antiseptic, put a clean plaster / bandage on it and take some painkillers. Maybe hold an ice pack on it?

Mummyof2asd · 19/06/2026 21:34

Haha sorry I did attach a picture but got to be approved 😂 Tweezers punctured the ball of my foot beneath my toes, tunneled just under the skin, and the tip poked back out further down near my arch. It created an entry and an exit wound through the skin, but it didn't go deep straight down into the foot."

That needs proper attention tonight. It’s high risk for developing infection.

Smartiepants79 · 19/06/2026 21:41

I would give a really good soak in salt solution or similar and then keep it uncovered to allow the air to get to it. Try not to use it for a bit and keep a good eye on it for redness etc.
maybe find a pharmacy tomorrow for a bit of advice? Looks mostly superficial.

Mummyof2asd · 19/06/2026 21:45

thanks everyone I’ll see how it is tomorrow, just really didn’t want to wait in an a and e tonight with two hot and tired kids but also don’t want to lose my foot lol

Keroppi · 19/06/2026 21:47

clean/soak in warm water w/ salt
savlon the cuts
put bandage/plasters on
ice pack
ibuprofen for pain
see how it is tomorrow you could always go to a minor injuries clinic or pharmacist
obvs if feeling unwell or hot or tingly then phone for advice

NeverDropYourMooncup · 19/06/2026 21:48

It's a penetrating wound to your foot with something that isn't clean - tweezers left on the floor - and then you've pulled that sharp, rough, unclean metal back through the already torn and cut inside of your foot.

Yes, you absolutely need to be seen.

Sandysandybeaches · 19/06/2026 21:50

You’ve stabbed your foot - it needs proper attention!

Greybeardy · 19/06/2026 21:50

When did you last have tetanus jab?
(fwiw, the advice in my last post was based on having anaesthetised people for similar injuries that they’d neglected and got infected…I would want the tract properly cleaned)

Moonandstarsandsun · 19/06/2026 21:51

Ouch!!! Hope you’re ok xxxx

Mummyof2asd · 19/06/2026 21:54

Okay I’m going to get it checked out. Thanks everyone :).

I wd be going to a an e now, infection spreads fast an that is hardly superficial. U need antibiotics asap as a precaution. It's not like you can clean inside your foot! You could have done alot more damage than you realise. Don't leave it.

DailyEnergyCrisis · 19/06/2026 21:58

Not A&E for this. Clean it, dress it and call 111 if you develop signs of infection.
A&E on a Friday night, peak World Cup drinking etc with a minor cut not requiring stitches will see you waiting all night at the least.

Bloody Hell , you must've kicked with a heck of a force to have them puncture your skin and out the other side .The sole of your foot is the toughest skin on your body .

There are layers of muscle tendon and ligaments on the plantar .
You have punctured with a sharp unclean object (and pulled it out )
Ideal scenario to have an infection build up in these fascial layers ,

No wonder you're in pain. !

Glad you're getting it looked at .

icannotlivelaughloveintheseconditions · 19/06/2026 22:17

I’d go to a minor injuries if possible otherwise I’d chance it tonight and go tomorrow when it might be quieter especially if you can get childcare

It's not a minor wound.

It very much is a minor wound. Google a medical definition if you can be bothered. I’m a HCP and can assure you this meets the characteristics for a minor wound.

Studyunder · 19/06/2026 22:27

You have 4 layers of muscle on the bottom of your foot, fascia, nerves, blood vessels, fatty padding, ligaments, tendons….. Your foot has to support your entire body weight, so will take longer to recover than an upper limb. There are thousands of sweat glands plus bacteria on your skin. This is a ripe area for infection. It will be bruised and painful at the very least. You need urgent care with antibiotic cover, and ideally a heel walker boot to off load the forefoot.

That’s a significant wound. If you’re generally well and healthy it should fully recover with the right care. It’s also something that has potential to turn nasty quickly. Please get it seen to. The wait and see approach gives it a chance to get worse before being seen. It’s not worth the risk. You’ll find out tomorrow how rubbish it is trying to cope with foot pain.

Any scar tissue from puncture wounds or surgery on the bottom of the foot can lead to life long callus formation with ongoing related issues.

There a lot more I could say but the gist is PLEASE GET IT SEEM TO ASAP. Prompt treatment makes you so much less likely to develop further problems. I hope it’s not to sore for you in the next few days/weeks.
ELEVATION for wound healing and rest. You wouldn’t sit and poke your appendix scar after surgery and expect it to heal normally. Less activity now will let it heal quicker.

please keep us updated 💐

I hope to god you’re not a podiatrist!

FollowingSpiders · 19/06/2026 22:32

See how it is as you may need antibiotics. I did similar with a hair pin when I was a child and it went through my big toe. I had a red line going up my foot a few days later so had to own up to my dm !

🤣 no slightly more qualified (and much better paid).

Lougle · 19/06/2026 22:34

I think some people think the wound is the two puncture marks on the ball of the foot. It's actually the two puncture marks on the ball of the foot and the puncture mark on the underside of the arch. The tweezers have tunnelled through the flesh of the foot. That makes it high risk for infection because it's a closed wound - similar to how dog and cat bites are considered high risk - they are very hard to clean.

It's possible that the walk-in/hospital will just give antibiotic cover, and check tetanus status, but it's also possible that they will want to give it all a good flush out with antiseptic as well.

If @Mummyof2asd doesn't get it seen to, and it gets infected, she may have to have the whole would laid open in theatre, washed out, and allowed to heal. That would be much worse.

Good, because you clearly don’t know about foot wounds or treat pre and post amputations in the feet! The structures involved inn this through and through wound are pretty important. Infection in the underlying structures doesn’t wait for the football to be finished or A&E to be quiet.
Quick and easy treatment with a short course of antibiotics now prevents a whole load of shit later…
