has anyone ever been diagnosed with costocondritis? or have symptoms similar?
i haven’t been diagnosed but recently iv been suffering with HA, panic attacks every hour.
constantly diagnosing myself, oh the joys.
i started with a burning chest and like a tight feeling but put that down to panic attacks. then yesterday started with pain in my ribs below breast and pain in sternum? just a constant achy feeling and upper back pain. now this morning i feel achy all on my chest like iv done a work out..
and i also keep burping.. A lot.

DH diagnosed himself with this, what he actually had was anxiety and he went on antidepressants.

Chest pain should never be ignored. See your GP.

What’s does your doctor say?

Yes I have. I see a chiropractor for mine, I have Tietze syndrome which is similar but not exactly the same, but it’s worth getting a proper diagnosis. It causes a lot of pain and inflammation around the ribs. It can be caused my poor posture so if you sit at a desk all day it’s worth looking at your set up. If you can afford a one off chiropractor appointment I highly recommend, you can get very breathless with it because the diaphragm can be squashed/ moved as well. She gently sort of repositioned everything and I felt like I could breath properly for the first time in years. It’s a really unpleasant condition and quite misunderstood, and if you have health anxiety it’s not helpful as it does make you feel like your heart/lungs are failing. Hope you’re ok.

His pain was at the bottom of his ribs and his sternum.

If you’re having chest pain you need to get essentially everything ruled out.
if you end up being diagnosised with costo, it’s physio that helps with it

FriendlyGreenAlien · 15/06/2026 10:14

I’ve had physio for it because I have a mild scoliosis, just enough to pull on where my ribs meet my sternum. The physio once pressed on one particular sternum joint and made me cry, the pain was so intense.
I don’t recall the burping, though I do get acid reflux more these days.

CelticSilver · 15/06/2026 10:17

Acid reflux and aching due to you poking them.
