Ear ruptured and hearing loss

Hello, on Monday early hours I was in a lot of pain with my ear, so went to doctors Monday afternoon who said I had a ruptured ear drum and they gave me antibiotics for 5 days (completed).
My ear was still draining on day 4 so I went back and got antibiotics ear drops as they said I had outer ear infection too, which I have to take for 7 days (on day 2). However my hearing has totally gone in that ear, is this normal? I start a new job on Wednesday was hoping I could get some sort of hearing back, just making me feel not good.

Sympathies OP, ear infections are lousy. In my personal experience 3-4 weeks, but apparently it can take up to 2 months depending on the size of the tear. And yes it’s normal to completely lose your hearing after a perforation.

I sympathise OP. I perforated my ear drug scuba diving years ago. It was FAR more painful than I would have ever imagined and the fluid oozing out was awful. Mine wasn't even infected!

If its a small tear, they can heal within a week or 2 but a larger one can take up to 2mths. Your hearing should improve before then though and if its not getting better get it checked again.

Thank you 😊 I feel better knowing that my hearing should return. Ive never had this before so started to panic thinking I have lost my hearing in my ear

HI OP you should go back to the dr asap to check the hearing loss is as expected and nothing else needs doing. Sometimes ear infections can damage the nerve which needs treatment asap or can be irreversible.
