Can someone tell me what I've done to my knee?

Saturday morning I was kneeling on the floor and as I got up, I twisted my knee. It really hurt and I struggled to put any weight on it. I was about to get in the car for an hour and a half journey as a passenger so I did, and by the time we got where we were going it was fine. Sunday morning I was kneeling - it happened again. I sat down for about an hour and once again it was fine. Same again this evening. I'm going to take it to the doctors tomorrow, but I like to be forewarned. Anybody know what I've done?

Sounds like you have inflamed the tissue around the joint which has caused swelling. What happens when you twist the kneecap is that the supporting tissue behind it swells - which prevents further injury by cushioning the area while it heals. Sitting and doing nothing - preferably with your feet up - will help, as will time. But what will help more is ibuprofen, will help with the pain and the swelling.

Don't worry, you can't have broken it - you would be tipped off by the massively distended legs and lack of circulation by now.

But perhaps you should stop begging/praying on your knees for a few days!

Thank you. I wasn't praying, I was camping! Involves a lot of scooting round on the knees banging in tent pegs!

MAybe I will take charge of the wine bottle opening and let others do the tent pitching for a while!

Now I would have been praying for a hotel in that situation

I was being tactful lest you were doing something else on your knees that you possibly wouldn't want to allude to on MN

Obviously you can't spend time kneeling for about three weeks after a knee injury, so you will just have to do as you say, and become patron saint of the corkscrew.

Good. Maybe I won't go to the doctor after all - I'll just tell dp that any kneeling that needs doing is up to him.....

Actually on a serious point, you may find that the injury is a repeater - it's quite common to develop a weakness if you have twisted your knee so the longer you can leave it between repeating the experience the better. Deffo let your DP do the kneeling/begging

OK, whomovedmychocolate - in your self appointed role as my personal orthopedic consultant - have you any idea how difficult it is to lead a normal life without kneeling down? I really didn't realise how often I knelt - and I am neither a religious fanatic nor a White House intern - how I would manage if I was completely escapes me!
