I had an abscess following surgery a while back. I’ve been having the wound packed and dressed at my local gp. It now no longer needs packing, just dressing. The wound still hasn’t healed because of overhealing/hypergranulation. Nothing has changed for several weeks now.
The GP team don’t seem at all concerned about this but I’m incredibly frustrated. I’ve been looking up e.g. trimovate cream on the NHS website but the HCAs haven’t heard of it and made me feel like I was being a pushy cow. They asked the local tissue viability nurses for advice several weeks ago but haven’t had a reply despite chasing. They seem perfectly happy to just try different dressings and foam pads that make no difference.
This is benefitting no one - I’m using up appointments, getting through so many dressings, yeah I prepaid my prescription but it’s still lots of money and time from my part being spent on this. I can imagine waiting for referrals that take even more weeks and weeks. I’m surely at risk of further infection while I’ve got this ugly open wound.
I am so, so, so fed up. I can’t even have a bath to cheer myself up. Has anyone got any advice or experience in this? Products to try?
