constipation

I am really sorry to bring this subject up but I really need some help.
Since having ds I am suffering with constipation. I always eat a fibre rich breakfast cereal, get at least 5 portions of fruit and veg a day and drink at least 2 litres of liquid. I am otherwise generally healthy.
Does anyone have any remedies that may help. I will be grateful for any suggestions.
Thankyou!

Tried prune juice? Sainsbury's sell it.

This worked for me ... eat 2 kiwis at night with the SKIN ON ... I found that slicing them really thinly helped me swallow. Hope you feel better soon - it's horrible and I continually suffer.

If you are having plenty of fibre, perhaps it is to do with not enough fluid - this can make you constipated. Try drinking plenty of water (tea, coffee don?t count!) throughout the day and this should help.
If it carries on for weeks despite fibre rich diet, I would see your GP to rule out any underlying problems.

Linseeds from Holland and Barrett - 4 teaspoons mixed with your breakfast cereal - non-bloating and works - give it a couple of days - its cheap too!

Try Cascara Compound by Specialist Herbal Supplies 0800 0345 333 - not a laxative but re-trains the peristalsis. AWESOME! You can get Psyllium husks from the same peoples are good softeners too. They are a very friendly firm - just mention my name, Lucinda Miller.

mixed stoned prunes with pure orange in a mixer and drink it, it really does work as i had piles 2 weeks before i had baba and the drink did the trick.

If you want to go for the prune juice option but find it a bit distasteful, pour it over lots of ice. I couldn't stomach it at all to start with but this tip was given to me and it does make it quite drinkable (and it's helped me with the dreaded constipation in the late stages of pregnancy)

Psyllium husks = genius.
