Painful lump in boob, anyone had similar?

Just wondering if anyone has experienced similar. I am 38 and breastfeeding my two year old. About a month ago I started getting a really severe pain in my left boob, it is if I run, if I lie on it, brush it etc and if my son nurses in certain positions. I have no noticed a lump. Could it be a blocked duct or something? There is a significant rate of breast cancer in my family so I am freaking out a little bit but the pain and lump seem to have appeared very quickly for that?

It could be nothing but you should get it checked out asap if only to rule it out and identify treatment if it is infected and put your mind at rest.

Please don't delay - whatever it is - early identification is key. I found a lump as I am a front sleeper and it was me causing discomfort. It turned out to be cancer but they caught it early amd it hadn't spread beyond my breast thankfully. I was seen quickly by my GP and was on the cancer pathway within 14 days.

Hope it's nothing to worry about amd you get it sorted.

Thank you for your reply, will go to the GP on Monday, does the GP examine you?

Yes, definitely get to the GP who can hopefully put your mind at rest. You can normally request a female GP or another woman in the room if you’re feeling a bit anxious but I’m sure it will all be very business-like and over very quickly! It’s more likely something related to the BF but better to be safe than sorry.

I've had this more than once, had it checked, it's always been fine. My understanding is that most BC lumps aren't painful. Always good to check it out with the doctor, of course.

I got a lump when I was pregnant with my last, they called it a milk lump. It never went away and I’m left with this non cancerous lump, can’t remember it’s official title.

I’ve had painful lumps about five times up to menopause. They always were cysts. However a consultant told me to never assume the sixth lump was a cyst and to always contact the GP
