Holiday Tummy….

I’ve been away for a week and so far no issues, this morning the “holiday tummy” struck with a couple of episodes of going to the loo. Apart from that, I have no other symptoms - no temp, no nausea or sickness and not getting worse, DH is also absolutely fine and we’ve eaten pretty much the same thing. I’ve been really careful with things like drinking only bottled water, handwashing, trying to eat sensibly etc so am annoyed this has happened! The only thing I can think is my tummy has had enough rich holiday food

Would you take Imodium to keep it at bay and do the normal plain food advice etc? And sort myself out once home.

For context - I’ve just over 48 hours of my holiday left (it’s Sunday afternoon here) and I fly home Wednesday tea time, landing back in the UK very early Thursday morning. I’d like to enjoy the last few days before being chained to my desk at work again as of Thursday!!

Personally I’d give it a day to see if it settles and then take Imodium if not

I’d take a couple of Imodium and try to avoid fatty, greasy or spicy food for a couple of days.

Also see if you can get some electrolyte drinks or powder to mix with water, I have a sensitive stomach and I always find they help rather quickly.

If something is in there that needs to be out. You will feel better quicker if you let it take its course.
Imodium if it becomes non stop or makes you dehydrated

I think 99% of holiday tummy is from swimming in the sea or pool rather than food.
Save the imodium for travelling back.

Good shout it’s a 13 hour flight home so worth taking it for that!

I mercifully brought some with me as part of my travel medical kit having has biblical food poisoning on holiday before where I took very little with me (lesson learned). I’ve also taken some probiotics as well to try and help.

my stomach can be sensitive too - home and abroad and I just realised time of the month is due in 2 - 3 days too. That’s not going to help either I don’t think!

If you are able to get to a chemist S Boulardii (a yeast like probiotics) is really good for holiday tummy issues. If you can’t get hold of any I’d recommend taking before and during any holiday trips abroad in the future.

I have a long history of IBS and a dodgy functioning digestive system in general and this is the only thing that really helps me.

I’ve got some “Bio Kult” everyday probiotics with me which I will start taking as I’m not sure they will do any harm but adding this product into the “holiday pills and potions bag” going forward. I’ll get some when I get home Thursday.

i have a sensitive tummy so will do this next time. I am putting it down toy sensitive tummy as I feel totally fine otherwise.
