trapped nerve?

I hurt my neck the other day - just woke up with it very sore - not stiff particularly but just an ache. I thought I had slept awkwardly in it or pulled a muscle when I picked DS3 up. It still hurts and the pain is now shooting across my shoulder and down my arm

DH thinks is is a trapped nerve so I have a couple of questions:

what the hell can I do to get it to go away or relieve the pain? I have taken neurofen and paracetamol & codeine today and it didn't really touch it.

Would a good massage help?

Should I put heat or cold on it?

Also, I am training for the Race for Life in 3 weeks and am not sure I should go out tonight - DH reckons all that jogging about will make it worse.

Thanks

An ice pack should help. Don't massage it until it settles down. Neurofen is the best thing to take for pain relief, and rest, on a soft surface.

thanks. Will try the cold pack and I'm good at resting anyway

and no lifting - don't raise your arms above your head - to lift anything down from a height for example. Try not to tip your head back to look up etc.

sorry - I am dealing with lots of interruptions and chaos here (as usual) and trying to give sensible advice at the same time.

I hope you will feel better soon.
