Laxido causing metallic taste? Anyone ?

After a positive FIT test I have had a ct colonography with dye. My results are ok thankfully but due to on going constipation I have been prescribed Laxido, a sachet a day. Since then I have this awful metallic taste in my mouth, it’s constant and waking me up at night. I’ve had recent bloods taken which shows kidney and liver function to be ok. Anyone experienced this? I’m not sure if I should stop the Laxido, I’ve tried most natural foods in my diet but I suffer from hypothyroidism so no foods help.

Hi there, long term user of Macrogol powders here (various brands, including Laxido, Cosmocol and Dulcosoft). I generally find them the most gentle laxative as the work as an osmotic medicine (drawing water to the bowel to soften stool), rather than stimulants that are not recommended for long term use. Laxido orange is my favourite flavour, I have used the stuff for so many years I don’t notice a metallic taste but perhaps as a new medication you’re picking up on this (?) hopefully it will become less noticeable in time the longer you have it. I also have hypothyroidism and generally have 2x sachets daily in the evening after dinner.

I am very glad of the stuff, none of the other methods I tried (through my gp’s with other medicine and dietary) worked as well and gently and reliably as this. You can vary you dose depending on your needs, there have been times 1x sachet was fine and other where I’ve needed 2. I switched to a medication-only (flavourless) Macrogol last year that doesn’t have the added electrolytes you get in Laxido (or Cosmocol or other similar brands). This is only due to being such a long term user and my blood potassium levels had gone up, and I really didn’t need the extra potassium. The downside to this is it is not available on prescription or in the UK so I have to buy it privately in Europe, but it does the job well.

Thank you, this metallic taste is awful, it’s constant and making me feel nauseous. Maybe it’s not the laxido. Think I will have to stop ironing it for a few days to see if it helps
