Tips for collecting stool samples for a FIT test and stool test

I need to do a FIT test and a separate stool test. I’ve read the instructions but I just can’t work out how to properly catch my stool without it getting into the toilet water, and then how to get rid of it once I’ve collected the samples. Has anyone got any tips please? I’m anxious and probably being dim as a result so please be gentle. Thank you so much.

I put a bin bag over the toilet bowl then lid down. Caught the poo. Sampled. Chucked bag in outdoor bin.

I pooed in an old Chinese food container, flushed it down the loo afterwards and tub went in landfill in afte4 a rinse

Keep a takeaway plastic tub, shit into that and scoop.

I was going to suggest a cat litter tray liner but a bin liner is more accessible! Catch, sample, tip what’s left into toilet.

Grape or fruit box from supermarket with holes in, put that under bum when pooing. Wee flows through. Take sample then tip rest of poo in loo. Plastic in bin

I used foil over the toilet. Seat on top. Catch poo. Take sample. Slide poo into toilet. Throw foil away.

My DC needs to do this every few weeks. Get a small cardboard container from the recycling, poo into that holding it, collect sample, tip remaining poo down loo, cardboard container into a dog poo bag (or any bag if you don’t have a dog!), tie up and put in outside bin.

I use an empty large yoghurt pot. Wedge it in the loo, catch the poo, do the sample, tip it out and bin the container. I like the idea of using the supermarket containers for fruit with the holes in. I'll have to save one or two

In your FIT test they send this paper thing that you put in the loo I think? It’s like a paper sheet and the ends go under the seat. The biggest issue is psychologically convincing yourself you can do a poo even with it there I found :)

It catches it before it goes in the water as it sits above the water line if you see what I mean

and then it flushes away thankfully !

I have done several FITs and none of them have had such a thing enclosed!

Oh how odd @Meredusoleil - both mine and dp’s came with the paper poo catcher 😂

Maybe it's a more recent thing or region dependent? The last time I did a sample was back in January and I'm in greater London.

I used the plastic box method for the poo test, and I also use a similar tub for urine samples then decant into sample container. There's no way I could pee straight into one of those sample bottles!

Toilet roll over the water works perfectly well. These instructions came with my test.

Toilet paper? Then down loo.

Line a takeaway tub with loo paper. Once you’ve taken your sample tip it in to the toilet. No pooey tub to deal with (still throw away, obs)

Our bathroom has its own water key to turn off supply (I think most do?) so when DP does his (I'm not old enough yet), I tell him to turn the water off, do a couple of flushes so the loo is empty, then do the poo, get the sample, then turn the water back on. Absolutely no mess or poey containers needed!

Surely you are overthinking this….use hand and catch it in a wad of toilet paper, sample, then flush away, worked for me and I am not that flexible.
