Bowel cancer screening - stressed!

I did my bowel screening test on 26th April. I’ve still not heard back. I’ve had 2 colonoscopies in the past. Last one 3 years ago which was all clear. The other 6 years ago they found 4 polyps. I’m now stressing that because I haven’t heard that I’m a list to arrange a colonoscopy again. Would I get phone or will I receive a letter if it’s bad news. Anxiety is really bad right now. Keep checking NHS app to see if it’s updated.

My dad had his abnormal results back in about 2-3 weeks. It’s something like 90% of the abnormal ones come back clear. His was because of antibiotics he’d taken three months prior!

I think he did, yes. There wasn’t any real urgency with it

Do you use the NHS app? You can see results on there more quickly. Mine took about 3 weeks. I can't help thinking that if they'd found something worrying, they'd have been in touch with you urgently.

NHS app will probably tell you. My blood test results are always on there days before the GP rings me

Justmoveon · 08/05/2026 20:06

Yes checked app @Freemont @Justbecauseyoucandoesntmeanyoushould
I’ve checked and nothing on app yet. Just worried that it takes longer to process bad news.

Not at all - my dad and his friend had theirs a day apart, both had abnormal tests and both had everything on the exact same timeline. His friend ended up with bowel cancer.

I sent mine back about the same time and haven’t heard anything either.

If it was bad news, surely you would have heard promptly?

I hope it's not, obviously!

Yeah I think they process the abnormal ones faster

DH gets told at the time the initial findings (if there were any polyps); when there have been, he gets the results after about 3 weeks I think - via the app. Were you told anything on the day? DH has bought home a printout of the findings (just as well, given he's been sedated).

I had 6 polyps and 2 lesions removed under general anesthetic, waited 6 weeks the consultant called to say a check 4months later but they were pre cancer not cancer cells thank god.my nephew at the same time was cancer they told him a week later. We are both O.K now but I understand your anxiety, x
